On some tractors there is a fuel shut off at the bottom of the tank. It is normally a messy job and be prepared. Do fill the new filter with clean fuel before installing as it will prime much easier. ....

Art told you the how part. Also some what new to diesel I was ready to change frequently. Kubota dealer mechanic told me to not change it until it tells you to. He said you will know by the way it starts running (not good). I used to change my car oil at 3000 miles but now stretch some to 4500 to 5000 even though manual says 7500. Guess my answer is the when part. Sure you'll receive some better answers as to the when part. Maybe some will even tell you why to change it more often. Just relaying what an experienced Kubota mechanic told me. ....

We change them every time we change the oil, at least. Some do not make it that long. ....

If the fuel tank is less than half full, you can full the fuel filter without draining fuel. There is an automatic shuroff when the filter is pulled, as long as the tank is less than half full.

I change mine regularly since I fill from 5 gallon cans. That creates too many opportunities for dirty fuel. ....

To cut down on filter changing, using a MR funnel I went to one a quarter changing to about once every 18 month's. Amazing what crap got in the fuel containers from the service stations. ....
